Acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa and malignancy: A clinical review and histopathologic evaluation with special attention to the 'mantle' hair of Pinkus. Arch Dermatol 1972;106:41–88.

Message

Numerous mantle hairs were noted in sections of specimens taken from the face and neck of persons with acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa. A relationship between those findings was suggested by the authors.

Critique

This is another example of attribution of pathologic significance to mantles. In actuality, there is no relationship between mantles and abnormalities of hair because mantles are adnexa of follicles, not follicles themselves.
