Reasons we were unable to make a specific diagnosis of mycosis fungoides in some patients reputed to have it

In the great majority of the 33 articles, the authors did not present information sufficient to compel us to the diagnosis they asserted was the correct one.

In 10 articles, we were not able to assess, in any of the patients presented, the accuracy of the diagnosis of mycosis fungoides.

In 23 patients, the authors provided the least amount of information necessary for a reader to agree or disagree with their diagnosis of mycosis fungoides.

In 83 patients, it was impossible to attempt clinico-pathological correlation because of lack of a single photograph of a clinical lesion and/or a single photomicrograph. Sometimes, even when photomicrographs were presented, they were of such poor quality or "shot" at such high magnification that no interpretation of the findings reasonably was possible.
