As recently as May 2006, Ackerman once again decried the ABCDEs, he doing that in a Lesson to Interactive Quiz 485 on the website Derm101.com. [

] This is what he asserted:
"The simplistic ABCDEs do not enable that raison d'être [of diagnosis clinical of melanoma] to be attained in a fashion reliable and consistent. More work serious and tenacious remains to be done, that endeavor requiring careful correlation clinicopathologic of all the many 'faces' of small, flat lesions of melanoma. When that task worthy has been completed successfully, the 'baby talk' of the ABCDEs will seem laughable."
