Routine sections stained with H & E were studied first with the naked eye and then placed under the microscope for reassessment of the diagnosis, in order to identify those diagnoses that can be made with repeatability without the use of a microscope. Then, criteria were developed to facilitate a beginner of the subject to learn how to make the diagnosis already at
ultimate
scanning magnification, without a microscope.
