This is the second in a four-part series of articles that examines the subject of dysplastic nevus in historical perspective. It concentrates on four articles by Clark and co-workers between 1978 and 1984. Their ideas, expressed here in a number of verbatim quotations, are followed by our short critiques designed to answer the question posed in the title of this article.
