MACULE:
A lesion less than 1.0 cm in greatest dimension that is flush with the level of surrounding normal skin and whose color differs from that of the surrounding normal skin (example: traumatic "senile" purpura).

PATCH:
A lesion 1.0 cm or larger in greatest dimension that is flush with the level of surrounding normal skin and whose color differs from that of the surrounding normal skin (example: "Mongolian spot").
