Erythema Multiforme


An inflammatory process that tends to involve mucous membranes, as well as skin, and of the latter the acra especially. The stereotypical presentation is lesions composed of concentric rings (“iris” and “target” type). The condition varies greatly in severity, the most extensive expressions of it going by names such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell’s syndrome (the so-called adult type of toxic epidermal necrolysis).
